CKRE - Radio Broadcast

Central Kentucky Radio Eye, Inc

Central Kentucky Radio Eye broadcasts on a sub-carrier (low-powered side-band) frequency of the University of Kentucky radio station WUKY. The closed circuit broadcast serves a potential audience of over 1400 people. The broadcast can be heard in Central Kentucky (in an approximate 80 mile radius) from Owenton in the north to Berea in the south, and from Bardstown in the west to Beattyville in the east.

Eligible listeners hear the broadcast on special in-home, pre-tuned radios which are loaned to them free of charge, for as long as they need or want the service. There is a $25 fully refundable deposit on the radio. CKRE can also be heard through headsets at patientsí bedsides in Central Baptist Hospital, University of Kentucky Hospital and the Veterans Administration Hospital.

CKRE is presently working to expand its service to an audio broadcast on local cable television, thanks to the support of the Lexington Public Library, the University of Kentucky and the Lexington Herald Leader. The live broadcast of the reading of the Lexington Herald Leader will soon be available Monday through Friday, 8am - 10am, by tuning into the Lexington Public Library local cable channel, Insight Communications TV channel 20. This expansion has the potential for CKRE to reach into 30,000 homes, all hospitals, and the many retirement and nursing homes throughout Lexington Fayette County and parts of Jessamine County.
