Central Kentucky Radio Eye, Inc
The service is provided free of charge, and the radio broadcast can be heard in Central Kentucky 24 hours a day, every day throughout the year. Listeners tune in on a Sub-Carrier Authorization (SCA) radio, which is loaned to eligible individuals free of charge.
Each morning CKRE airs locally produced programming in which volunteers read state, regional and local newspapers including the Lexington Herald Leader and the Louisville Courier Journal. Listeners can also hear locally produced programming of readings from magazines and health materials.
Every afternoon and during the night CKRE broadcasts many national newspapers and publications, such as The New York Times, Readers Digest and Newsweek.
On March 11, 2002, CKRE began broadcasting its two hour reading of the Lexington Herald Leader on the Lexington Public Library cable TV channel. This audio broadcast of the Herald Leader is available to anyone with Insight Communications Cable TV service by tuning into Cable Channel 20 Monday through Friday, 8 am - 10 am.
